I spent the better part of Saturday at the dealership working with 'Shawn'. I explained that I was not dissatisfied with my current car, but thought I would check out their Loyalty program, and if I found a car I liked at no more than my current monthly payment and no cash out of pocket, I was ready to make a deal. I left him know I was specifically looking for an all-wheel drive vehicle, and was initally interested in the Rogue.
After being shown one Rogue in the trim level I was looking for (it was supposedly the only one they had), and me not being interested, he started suggesting other cars, including another Maxima. I left him know thqat I was set on an AWD car, and aftdr speaking to his 'Sales Manager', he suggested I look at a 2008 Infiniti G35X. I told him I thought that car was way outside my price range, but he assured me that he had three on the lot, that he had already spoken with the manager, and that I could pick anyone and that the deal would basically be a 'key swap'. He had me take the car home as a demo, and I agreed to bring back today.
I returned to the dealership this morning, immediately found 'Shawn', and told him I was ready to make a deal. After having me sit around for 1 1/2 hours on a slow Sunday, and with my threat of leaving due to my growing impatience, he finally got me in to see the finance manager, 'Mike'.
I quickly learned that Mike had never heard of the Loyalty Program, and that in order to do the deal I would need to increase my monthly payment by $50 and take a 66 month loan". Needless to say I walked away from that offer, and made clear my dissatisfaction with my experience/. He was very apologetic and advised that the sales person had overstepped their authority, and that he had already spoken to another manager and that they would be having a meeting with the sales staff and the Business Development Program Coordinator (what ever that is) because this was not right?. I'm sure he could ultimately care less about my satisfaction, since people will continue to buy cars there..
Buyers beware:. I'm sure they count on people becoming emotionally invested in the car they are looking to purchase, and be unwilling to walk away from the deal after spending so much time at the dealership;. Don't be afraid to walk out,. There are plenty of dealerships to work with/.
